Credit repair is how you can influence the things you do not control

Opening a new credit account, or closing an old credit account, or paying down certain accounts and not others are things you can control. With the Suze Orman FICO Kit simulator you can manage your credit report score by testing different scenarios and seeing the results to your FICO credit report score immediately. It’s a huge benefit because the alternative is waiting months to see the result, and what if what you did was a bad choice?

Credit repair is how you influence the things that affect your credit report score that you cannot control directly. Your credit report score is based 100% on the information in your credit report. The only way you can repair your credit report score is by adding information to your credit report or by removing information from your credit report.

Can you do your own credit repair?

Consumer heavyweights like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) say you can. Almost every major newspaper article your read says not only that you can but joins the FTC saying that’s the only way you should do credit repair. They do not provide much actual credit repair help, however, other than saying to pay your bills on time.

Why? To protect you from the horde of fast buck credit repair scams that promise everything and deliver nothing, I suppose. There are plenty of horror stories to support that position but they do not apply to every credit report repair service.

Personally, I think that doing something on your own as life changing as repairing your own credit report is nuts. Here’s why.

Credit repair is complicated. You cannot dash off some credit repair letters over morning coffee and expect good results. Credit repair requires specialized knowledge, some of which can be gained only from experience actually doing credit report repair.
